Invitation
Protest Rally against the SPDC¹s
Electoral Laws
In response to the military regime¹s release of new electoral laws for 2010
elections, Burmese Democracy Activists in India will stage a protest rally
against the undemocratic laws on 17th March in New Delhi, India.
On 8th March, the ruling State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) released
the five sets of new electoral laws to govern the upcoming elections in
2010, whose date has yet to be announced.
The Political Parties Registration Law requires that parties register within
60 days, giving the National League for Democracy two months to decide
whether to kick-out democratic leader and Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi as
its leader or become a banned party. 2200 political prisoners are also not
allowed to participate in the new elections.
This is totally against the will of the peoples of Burma and the
international community including the United Nations. UN Secretary General
has been urging the Burmese junta to release all political prisoners
including Aung San Suu Kyi and start inclusive dialogue with key
stakeholders from democracy groups and ethnic nationalities for the
reconciliation.
To protest against the undemocratic electoral laws Burmese democracy
activists in India will stage a protest rally as per the schedule below. You
are invited to join the rally to show your solidarity with the Burmese
people in their struggle for democracy in Burma.
