Hi Taha,
For once I agree you may have a valid point to some extent. From some of the horror stories of the partition I heard from my elders, groups would want to kill some of its opposite religion's person they would undress the fellow and see whether the person had undergone Sunnat(I hope it is the word really used) and after confirming would leave or kill the fellow. But this was not applicable to women who in any case were used for ulterior carnal desires by both communities where religion never had any role.
So now data can be used in a similar way but IDs wouldn't have any recognisable details other than names.Such an information is easily available locally who is a Muslim, Hindu or Christian in a Mohalla.1984 riots took place when Sikhs were physically identifiable.Certain things you have to live with.
Cases of misuse of data: You can see the entire voters' list in State Election Commission's websites which is available right now.Any one use or misuse it.UPSC used to collect lot of data for IAS aspirants, I know several cases when the data were used for matrimonial purposes getting the details of persons from specific castes.I still don't know whether the data were officially made available or obtained otherwise.
Taha, I have quoted the instances of knife being used as a murder weapon in some cases, would you then agree that the knife be not used in kitchens or the manufacture of knives be banned in the country.
Apply the same to UID project and review your opinion about the project. And in any case who listens to us writing in a restricted sample, the Govt of India may further go ahead in Caste based census where the data are in absolute public domain.Intelligensia has always suffered while fanatics gain prominence.
With warm regards,

(A.K.MALIK)
