Thanks Menso and Neeraj. Your comments helped me clarify my ideas.

Continuing with the case of medicine, we can ask what is the 
equivalent of the information like drug composition, dosage, 
side-effects etc in terms of software. What kind of information 
should be available from the `production entity` about the software.? 
If  there is a case made by someone that `sharable and modifiable 
source code` is important for a `more` free society, what is the 
argument against this?

Following from Neeraj's example, urban space could be a good node to 
think with. Take the unique urban configuration of Amsterdam. I would 
think that the Provos movement in the 50s affected the urban form 
that you see in Amsterdam today. How exactly it shaped the form I am 
not sure but it brought into focus a different mode of thinking about 
the urban form. The same could be said about the anti-road movement 
in England. It creates a contending `social imagination` that resists 
the domination of 'automobile urbanism'. A space that gives equal 
respect to a pedestrian, a cyclist, a tram commuter, a person waiting 
at a bus stand and automobiles is much much preferable to the space 
that seems to just listen to the arrogant owners of  fuming and 
spewing engines (Delhi).

Coming back to the question of medicine. I am not so sure that I 
share the same confidence that Menso has about practitioners and the 
institutions that manage it.

Here are some simple statements that a simple 15 minute search in www 
brings up. Do checkup on words like `iatrogenic injury`, or `medical 
deaths`, `cancer scam`, `AIDs and Genocide`, `medicine and genocide` 
etc. These examples are mostly US based but I am sure we can find 
lots of local variations:

a class-action lawsuit being considered against the NCI as described 
on page 55).

By its actions on hydrazine sulfate the US government has 
participated in the deaths of untold numbers of cancer patients in 
the US and around the world. And it continues."

MANDATORY VACCINATION IS MEDICAL GENOCIDE

sold-out government.  Repeal all state and federal mandatory 
vaccination policies.  Support freedom of choice.  Tell Clinton what 
he can do with his 100% vaccinated program and his bid for a second 
term.

Our faith in our medicines, practitioners and institutions are 
grounded on many accepted values. These may not be such a sound basis 
for our decisions about many things. A skeptical attitude may be not 
such a bad thing to work with.
