[Reader-list] Pakistan kids on reality show face MNS ire

Dear all
The questions is not whether Pakistanis like the Indian music and
films or not (to allow their artists in India). What is bothersome
here is that we Indians who condemn the Pakistani kids coming for a
music show assume that ALL Pakistanis, even their children, are
responsible for the terrorist attacks in India. Hence they should not
be welcomed here. It is highly ironic that the kids are actually
coming with the message of peace. Although one could doubt if such
measures would actually do anything for the peace, but I think it is a
great measure if Indian sponsors and TV channel have taken this step
forward. I wonder what they will do now after the threat from MNS
goons. I hope that they don't back out on this project.

Someone on this list said that Pakistanis should not be welcomed in
India since they are not as hospitable and hearty as we Indians are
with our "atithi devo bhava". I am sorry, but we all know how much we
respect and care our foriegn guests. (Read the newspaper any day). In
2004-05, when Indian cricket team went to Lahore for a one-day test
and won the match, the people of Lahore celebrated India's victory
with firecrackers and sweets. But when their team came to Delhi for
the next match, the viewers at Kotla stadium threw stone at them as
they were nearing a victory. You can confirm this from the news.

Those Indians who have been to Pakistan will confirm this: the moment
the Pakistanis get to know that you are an Indian, they shake hands
and hug you warmly. In India, I have seen Pakistanis who avoid telling
people on the street that what their nationality is - although this
may not happen everywhere.
